I have the nobel prize performance for band tomorrow in worcester. I'm happy that I get to see a bunch of my friends who I haven't seen in over a month, but I'm NOT excited to venture out into the cold. So far I've managed to avoid the really cold days by staying inside and drinking hot chocolate, but I don't have that option tomorrow. I hope I can find my winter gloves, hat & scarf...

[20 Jan 2007|11:10pm] |
Dev just brought it to my attention that I haven't posted in a while. I really don't have much to say, but I felt the need to write something.
I just got back from England a few days ago. I think I finally adjusted to the time difference. When I first got to England all I did was sleep for 3 days or so, then when I got home I couldn't sleep for 3 days or so. I definitely wish that was the other way around.
Anyway, I was there for 12 days. I had a blast. I saw all the sites like the London Eye, Westminster Abbey, London Bridge, Tower of London, Tower Bridge, and a bunch of other stuff. I posted pics on facebook if you're interested. I also went shopping, and just walk around a lot, went to a rugby match, and drank a bit. I'm sorta sad that I had to come home.
Well, that's the most exciting thing that's happened to me lately. I go back to school next week. I don't want to start classes again, but I def miss my friends at umass so i'm sorta glad that I'm going back.
That's all folks.

I knew that seeing that movie was a bad idea. Now, as much as I don't want to, all i can do is think about him. I thought I didn't miss him, but tonight made me realize that I wasn't fooling anyone. I don't want to be upset. That's just annoying for everyone involved. I just really wish we went to see "RV" instead.

Let's get something straight. If you do not care about your own well being when you're driving, you don't have the right to be on the road. You don't have the right to put me, my sister, my friends, and everyone else I love at risk. If you were drunk at any point tonight you are not okay to drive. Period. You do not drive better stoned. Period. If you're so tired that you can't keep your eyes open or form sentences then you're not okay to drive. Let me tell you a story (and I'll try to keep it brief). When my mom was about my age she went out and got drunk with her friends. Her best friend Jennifer decided that she was okay to drive. They crashed into a tree on the way home, killing Jennifer and leaving my mom permanently blind in one eye. I hope that you don't have to die or kill one of your friends (or mine) before you figure out that you're not okay to drive.

Have you ever had one of those days when you honestly wished that someone would hit you by a car or you would suddenly come down with an accute case of mono so that you could be hospitalized or bed ridden and you wouldn't have to worry about being in 12 places at once for a couple months. Well, if you've had one of those days then you know how I felt today. If not, then consider yourself lucky (and you probably think I'm a bit unstable right now, but this is livejournal, so that's only to be expected.)
Well, that's why I love kids. They don't accept bullshit excuses like adults tend to. They don't understand "Sorry I slacked off, but I had 2 tests to study for and papers that I had to write." They don't care about your all-nighters or your other commitments. I wish that everyone could look at the world like this. It stressed me out at first to look at my cub scouts as just another commitment, but once I got to my meeting I realized that giving my kids 100% really made me so much happier. I couldnt just pout and cry like I had the rest of the day. They simply didn't care about my bad day and they shouldn't since it has nothing to do with them. All they care about is that I go there and entertain them. Selfish? Of course. Oh, to be a kid again.

Ok so I'm not sure how many of you have drank with me or seen me drunk, but today I thought of the perfect analogy for sober me vs. drunk me. It's definitely like the difference between Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Technically the same person, but really completely different. I just had to write that down before it was out of my head because it really is my life.

I don't know why i don't just delete this thing since i don't even write in it anymore.
Whatever, lately I've been having some really weird dreams. Last night's wasnt that bad in comparison, but i dreamt that i was on the gauntlet 2 and i became friends with kina and randy and kina was telling me about a crazy girl at widener that tried to friend her on facebook, but then we were actually friends so she told me that she would be my friend on facebook now so it was ok. And i was happy cuz everyone would be happy that i was friends with kina. I think 2 things are evident here. 1) Way too much of my life is spent on the facebook. 2) I really need to make my audition video for the Real World so i can get it out of my head.
I dont know why i felt it necessary to share this particular bit of information after so many months, but whatever. Peace out
ps happy birthday keight :)

So yesterday it was dark when I was walking home from theatre and I stepped in shit. When I got back to my room I did not take off my shoes and i was completely oblivious to this fact. After 5 mins or so my room began to reek of shit (no surprise there). The surprise is that I immediately started thinking "did I shit my pants?" I dont know why I thought this since i dont think ive shit my pants since i was 4ish. A normal thought would have been the obvious "Did I step in shit?" or even, "Did my room mate shit her pants?" But no, I was contemplating whether or not I was the culprit, and even more, if i could have possible done it subconsciously. It took me a good 3 minutes to realize that the smell was coming from my shoe.
That my friends, is why I am an idiot.

| Your leadership style- Teaches you a lot about you and others |
[13 Sep 2005|07:43pm] |

] |
Read the following statements and figure out which ones best relate to your work style. Remember, this isn't your personality, but how you react in work situations. I did this last year with City Year and again at a meeting the other day with the Presidential Service Club. I think it's neat how people can be so easily categorized.
1) NORTH Approaches to work/work style: - assertive, active, decisive - likes to determine the course of events and to be in control of professional relationships - enjoys challenges presented by difficult situations and people - thinks in terms of the "bottom line" - quick to act or make decisions; expresses urgency for others to take action - perserveres, not stopped by hearing "no", probes and presses to get at hidden resistances - likes variety, novelty, new projects - comfortable being "in front" - values action-oriented phrases, "Do it now!", or "I'll do it", "What's the bottom line?"
2) SOUTH Approaches to work/ work style: - Understands how people need to receive information in order to act on it - Integrates others' input when determining the direction of what's happening - Value-driven regarding aspects of professional life - Uses professional relationships to accomplish tasks, interaction is a primary way of getting things done - Supportive of colleagues and peers - Willing to trust others' statements at face value - Feeling-based thoughts and actions; trusts own emotions and intuition; intuition regarded as "truth" - Receptive to others' ideas, builds on others' ideas, team player, noncompetitive - Able to focus on the present - Values words like "right" and "fair" (When it comes to work i have absolutely no south in me!)
3) EAST Approaches to work/ work style: - Visionary who sees the big picture - Generative and creative thinker, able to think outside the box - Very idea-oriented - Makes decisions by looking towards the future (insight/imagination) - Insight into mission and purpose - Looks for overarching themes and ideas - Adept at, and enjoys problem solving - Likes to experiment and explore - Appreciates a lot of information - Values words like "option", "possibility", "imagine"
4) WEST Approaches to work/ work style - Understands what information is needed to make decisions - Seen as practical, dependable and thorough in task situations - Provides planning and resources, is helpful to others in these ways and comes through for the team - Moves carefully and follows procedures and guidelines - Uses data analysis and logic to make decisions - Weighs all sides of an issue, balanced - Introspective, self-analytical, critical thinker - Skilled at finding fatal flaws in an idea or project - Maximizes existing resources- gets the most out of what has been done in the past - Values words like "objective" and "analysis" (I am most definitely a west)
So now that you know what you are. Take a second to read what some of the symptoms of overuse of the different directions. I can assure you that if you had a direction that you identified with completely the next thing will hit home, too.
1) NORTH Overuse (style taken to extreme) - Can easily overlook process and comprehensive strategic planning when driven by need to act and to make decisions - Can get defensive, argue, may attempt to "out expert" others - Can lose patience, push for decisions too early, or avoid discussions to a significant extent - Can be autocratic, want things done his/her way, has difficulty being a team member - Sees things in terms of black and white, not much tolerance for ambiguity - Gets compulsive, disregards practical issues - Not heedful of others' feelings, may be perceived as cold - Has trouble relinquishing control- finds it hard to delegate, thinks "If I want something done right, I have to do it myself!"
2) SOUTH Overuse: - Can lose focus on goals when believes that relationships or people's needs are being compromised - Has difficulty refusing requests - Internalizes difficulty and assumes blame - Prone to disappointment when others see relationships as secondary to tasks - Difficulty confronting or handling anger (own or others'); may be manipulated by emotions - Can over-compromise in order to avoid conflict - Immersed in the present; loses track of time; may not take action or see long-range view - Can become too focused on the process at the expense of accomplishing goals
3) EAST overuse: - Can put too much emphasis on vision at the expense of action or details - Can lose focus on tasks - Poor follow-through on projects can develop a reputation for a lack of dependability and attention to detail - Not time-bound, may lose track of time - Tends to be highly enthusiastic early on, but then burns out over the long haul - May lose interest in projects that do not have a comprehensive vision - May become frustrated and overwhelmed when outcomes are not in concert with vision
4) WEST overuse: - Can be bogged down by information, continues doing analysis at the expense of moving forward - Can become stubborn and entrenched in a position - Can be indecisive, collect unnecessary data, become mired in details, "analysis paralysis" - May appear cold, withdrawn, with respect to others' working styles - Tendency to remain on the sidelines, watchful, observing - Can become distanced from other people - May be seen as insensitive to others' emotions - May be resistant to change (And anyone who's worked with me in the past knows that that describes me almost to a tee)
Well I hope you learned something about yourself or someone you work with.

My mom kicked me out of the house last night. I don't know how permanent this is. I could apologize, but I don't feel like I did anything wrong. All my life my mom has said she would choose her kids over a boyfriend if it came down to it, but now I know that she's nothing but a gold digger. She really is just like him and I can't feel sorry for telling her that. I know this doesnt make sense to anyone else, but whatever. The only part that you need to understand is that my mom is crazy. She kicked me out of the house and told me that she's not going to pay for college anymore. I don't need her. I've been telling her for months that I would help pay for it. She tells me I don't appreciate what she does for me but that's not true. I don't appreciate him. Why should I? Every now and then he decides to stop buying himself new cars and motercycles and whatnot to help pay for my computer. And at what cost? To constantly be told that I'm not wanted in my own house? To be woken up in the middle of the night hearing my mom crying and him telling her to get the fuck out? No thank you. Ill buy my own computer. You're right mom, I DONT appreciate that shit.
You know what I appreciate? The father who will give me $10 when he only has 20, who tells me he loves me every time he sees me and has never made me feel inadequate. A friend's mother who I have only seen once or twice this summer who will let me stay at her house even when my friend isn't here because she cares. THATS what I appreciate mother. Love isnt about money, when the hell are you going to figure that out???
